After a long summer break and the Canyon High School’ hallways being silent and dead, they brought back their lights and voices these past weeks. On August 19th, Canyon High School opened its doors for students and teachers to be back in business.
The past couple of weeks, as students adapted to their classes and school routine, I was able to interview a couple students to ask about what they think of their classes, changes and what they enjoyed. Many students were busy over the summer and could not see friends, so coming back to school gave each student a chance to be with friends.
Junior Henry Sparks said, “I really enjoyed seeing my friends again., I didn’t hang out with most of them over the summer.”
Other than things we enjoyed, we also saw students not liking new changes at school. Over the summer, Canyon High School changed in many ways and one includes the new way to get around in the school. The new pass is called “Securely”, and senior Lexie Patino said, “ I dislike the new pass system.”
Other than changes to school, there have been changes in laws that students have not liked. There have been various viewpoints at Canyon High School about the new phone ban. After being asked what she thinks about it, sophomore Denali Abott said, “I think it’s not helping at all.We are looking at the wrong source, and it’s not going to change anything.”
But, we also see students like Raeann Gamez, who stated, “It’s good because people need to rely on working by themselves instead of the internet, but Ii do believe that we should have them at lunch and passing periods because not having them at lunch is unnecessary.”
Overall, we have seen improvements in grades for students which could mean that no phones could be helping us learn.
Canyon High School is growing better and better each year and we are looking forward to this year. The Cougar Tracks staff is wishing you the best of an amazing 2025 -2026 school year!
