A new adaptation of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” has come to theaters. The new movie “Wonka” hit the theaters on December 15, 2023. It is a fun family-friendly musical that tells the story of how Willy Wonka came to be.

In a world where dreaming is prohibited and chocolate is only for the rich, Willy travels to the Galleries Gourmet, where the chocolate cartel is. Willy shows the public some of his magical chocolate that makes people fly, but the three main cartel leaders tell Willy that he is not able to sell his chocolate there. The money he made selling the chocolates is taken away and he has no place to stay.

Willy is taken to a hotel where the innkeeper, Mrs. Scrubitt, tells him that he doesn’t need to pay her right away. A young girl named Noodle tries to warn him to read the fine print before signing the contract, but young Willy is illiterate and signs anyway. The contract puts him in great debt, and he has to work for Mrs. Scrubitt to pay it off. He meets the young girl again, and they make a deal: Willy will give Noodle a lifetime supply of chocolate if she teaches him to read and helps him escape to find a way to pay off both of their debts.

In this sweet musical filled with action, comedy, Oompa-Loompas, and of course chocolate, we learn how Willy became Wonka.

“Wonka” has made over 500 million dollars in the box office. It was scheduled to leave theaters on January 8, 2024, but because of how successful it has been, people are still able to catch it on the big screen. Director Paul King and Producer Alexandra Derbyshire spent around 125 million dollars to film “Wonka”. They brought the magic back from the original 1971 “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” and made an incredible prequel that adds a cherry on top to the original story.

Catch “Wonka” in the theaters or stream it from home in the upcoming months on HBO Max or Prime Video. It’s guaranteed to give you a sweet tooth.
