Athletic Achievements

Here at Canyon High School, several of our senior athletes signed for a spot to play their chosen sport at the college level. Daniel Perez signed for football at Texas A&M Kingsville. Owen Painter will play football at McMurry University. Lawson Fields signed for football at Southwestern Assemblies of God. Mason Timmerman will be on the football team at Ellsworth Community College. Xayvion Noland is going to play football at Texas State. Kyle Head signed for baseball at Schreiner University. Bron Farr will be on the baseball team at Dallas College Richland Campus. Evan Janner signed to play baseball at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Tripp Villanueva signed for baseball at Centenary College of Louisiana. Mason Engel will play baseball at Iowa Western Community College. Emery Black signed for girls basketball at Penn State Beaver University. Mackenzie Combs signed for cross country/track at Texas Lutheran University. Tila Hendrus is going to play soccer at Texas Lutheran University. Gerorgianna Slanina-Wertz will play soccer at University of Gloucestershire.

We had a chance to interview a few of these sports scholarship recipients.

Xayvion Noland said, “It’s been a dream to sign for a D1 program ever since I was a kid, and I’ll make it to the NLF.” He wanted to sign for Texas State because Texas State was one of the colleges that showed the most interest in him. He’s excited to go to college just to get the college experience and to meet new people and play on a good team.

Mason Engel has been playing baseball since a very young age. He said he chose to attend   Iowa Western Community College because, “The coaches are really cool, it’s a really nice campus, and I’m going to develop a lot from the university. Mason said that his favorite part about baseball is being around his friends and playing what he loves. Mason also said that the most exciting part about baseball is, “Getting to play with my friends”
