The 2024-25 season for our boys Canyon Varsity Soccer team commences this January against Tom Glenn. I had the pleasure of interviewing the team’s head coach, Coach Robert Rush, on how he will approach and teach the game.
Coach Rush and his team have already begun practicing for the upcoming season. When asked how he would get his team to perform to the best of their abilities, he cited the team’s continuous focus on their skillwork as a method for the team to remain competitive.
Furthermore, when discussing what will be important in ensuring team success, Coach Rush noted that this current year’s team shows tremendous student leadership. He says there is “a large amount of motivation that is being shared between them all.”. With that level of chemistry, the team is sure to be successful on all fronts.
There will certainly be some challenges, looking at the schedule. The team will face multiple strong contenders throughout the season, and Coach Rush employs his own way to deal with that. “We try to approach every game the same,” he states.
By doing this, the team can remain confident and perform optimally, even through the pressure of knowing the possible strength of the opposition.
Coach Rush has also approached this season differently with his tactics. Every year, with a new talent pool on his roster, he changes the team’s formation, strategies, and concepts to accommodate the team’s strengths and occasional shortcomings.
From the players to the coaches, and even the fans, there has been a tremendous amount of thought and effort that has been spent this season for our boys varsity soccer team, and this effort will certainly be exemplified soon enough on the field.
