From off-season practice to a worldwide sport, cross country has become a skillful sport, and our Cougars prove that with every step they take to their goal. This year our cougars have a new cross country head coach. Coach Pardo has been a coach for 15 years and was welcomed to Canyon High School with open arms.
“Everybody’s been real supportive so far. Administration’s been supportive, the parents, the kids have been supportive,” stated by Coach Pardo
This year, Canyon High School has become a 6A school, making significant changes to the people we go against, but our cross country team plans to show that they can handle the challenges. The team is projected to win at district and will really have a good challenge at state. The tradition of the seniors designing the team shirts lives on. Along with this year’s shirt is the mantra “Trials make trophies”, also made by the seniors.
Junior Alissa Hennessee says her favorite part about cross country is the close bonds they form and that they see each other in their best and worst moments. Some traditions they have are before game dinners and on the bus prayers. Something she is excited for this year is to hopefully see her team go to state and to continue to grow as a team. The staff here at Cougar Tracks wishes the cross country team good luck at state.
