This week I had the chance to meet with Coach Dunaway about Cougarette Soccer. She had many good things to say and some very interesting points. She stated, “Every new year is a new group of athletes. We are very fortunate that Coach Martinez has [a lot] of core values and principles, and our athletes follow those rules and implement those rules on and off the field.”

The team has been successful and just placed first place in the Smithson Valley tournament. our competition has been tough, considering we have been playing many 5A teams, so for them to place first shows their hard work .” It is remarkable for the team to bond so well and young sophomores and juniors to step up and come together as a team. 

Coach Dunaway said, ”Our goal is state. We are all goal-oriented, and state is the main goal.” With the way this team is playing, without a doubt, state is a must win for these girls. Coach added, “This is my perspective, but there are many types of leaders, such as those who lead by example and those who are the vocal point of the team, and some who are motivating, but I would say Ashlyn Anderson [is a leader] because she is someone to be reckoned with, and her character is phenomenal, and Kylie Myer, who is an awesome athlete and person overall.” 

Coach Dunaway had many positive things to say for the team. Join me in wishing the girls of the Canyon High School Cougarette soccer team luck at winning state.
