This year’s Cross Country team is heating up and ready to go the distance. I recently had a chance to meet and talk to Coach West and asked her about her thoughts and how she felt about the start of the season. She talked about how she hopes the girls can continue placing well and competing at high levels. Coach West added that, “We are beating the teams that we struggled with last year, and we are improving dramatically.”
I spoke to Cross Country athlete Aubrey Ellebracht about her thoughts and she said, “Our season is going well; we’re still looking to get to the top of our district, but we’re getting super close. “ I then asked her about how she would compare last year to this year and she mentioned that the team has lost a lot of their key players because they were seniors last year. With that being said, it looks like the young team is stepping up and closing the distance because the JV girls have finished phenomenally with a 2nd place finish out of 20 teams.
Varsity Girls also had another great finish with a 9th out of 40 teams, big congratulations to Madi who ran the fastest 5k time in canyon girl history!!!!
Coach West also mentioned that the boys are a work in progress saying, “ and for the boys, there’s a hole that we haven’t been able to fill and we lost many key players and haven’t been able to replace them yet,“
Coach West said that there are going to be many challenges this year, and the teams are going to be tested, and it’s just a matter of time to see who’s going to step up and be able to be the voice. Both Cross Country teams have a meet at Starke Park. Let’s wish them luck at this meet and as their season continues.
