We welcomed a new Assistant Principal to Canyon High School for the 2023-2024 school year! Mr. Lawyer-Jefferson took over the position for Coach Adams this year and has been thriving in his new environment. Meet Mr. Lawyer-Jefferson!
Mr. Lawyer-Jefferson is new to Canyon this year but has been in education for the past 13 years. He taught and coached most of those years, but at his last school he became an AP. He said that he originally got into education to coach.
Mr. Lawyer-Jefferson said, “A byproduct of me wanting to coach was to get an education, so for me I had some really great educators that put me in the position to be successful.” He also states that, “Canyon is the best campus that I’ve been on so far.”
Mr. Lawyer-Jefferson talked a lot about the rich culture and positive environment that Canyon has. He explained that moving to this job was extremely nerve-racking because it is his first year being in a high school instead of a middle school.
He says, “So far, the past eight weeks have been fantastic. This has been the best start to a school year for me in my past 13 years of education.”
Mr. Lawyer-Jefferson’s biggest duty is attendance. “I make sure kids are in class for that 90% rule. I also deal with discipline [concerning students with] last names De-Hi, grades, I oversee soccer, lunch duty, monitoring hallways, etc.”
Mr. Lawyer-Jefferson states that his favorite part of Canyon is, “The positive culture, the accepting culture, the passionate culture. It really makes a difference when all the people who work here are on the same page and we want to do what’s best for our students. I think that’s why Canyon has been so successful because a student’s success and making sure students grow and that they’re prepared for life after high school is fantastic. I think that’s why Canyon is a cut above all the other campuses.”
Finally, Mr. Lawyer-Jefferson said, “I’m happy to be here, and I’m very thankful for the opportunity to work with such good staff members, but more importantly to work with some really great kids.”
Make sure to welcome Mr. Lawyer-Jefferson if you see him in the halls or at lunch. Canyon High School is extremely lucky to have him here.
