Recently I had the chance to interview Coach Steele, to get some insight on powerlifting and what goes on behind the scenes.
So I went over the basics and asked how he got into powerlifting and being a coach he replied, “Growing up I loved lifting weights and kind of continued throughout my adulthood, and I loved seeing kids wanting to grow and be a better version of themselves.”
It’s pretty cool to hear that, and maybe it will inspire others to continue to work hard and dedicate themselves to the sport. I asked him what a normal routine would look like for the lifters. “We have a set routine of lifts for a certain day and depending on how close we are to a meet or competition, we wouldn’t lift too heavy so that our lifters won’t injure themselves because that’s the last thing you would want to do before the competition.”
With a recent lifting competition that has been occurring I asked him how they were doing. “For our boys, Gabriel Benitez and Gabriel Rodriguez did very well, and I’m glad they had the chance to compete at state. Also, [I’m proud of] Presley Patek, Mia White, Sarah Hartman, and Sidney Banks, for also competing and giving it their all for Canyon High School.”
Huge congratulations to Mia White for her fifth place finish at state and Gabriel Rodriguez for finishing 13th place. And good job to the rest of the girls for placing top ten in their divisions. Awesome job to our Cougars for pushing themselves to get to where they are. Way to represent.
