Recently, I had the opportunity to chat with track and field coach, Coach Gamez.
We talked about their recent activities. I asked him how they were doing, and he replied, “It’s been pretty good. We’ve had our ups and downs. It’s a tough district. We have qualified 16 varsity to area and seven to regional”.
Coach Gamez said the goal is to qualify as many kids as possible so that kids can get all the experience they can as they slowly make their way up high school. Following up with his statement, I asked him what his goals are with the team Gamez said, “Some of our goals were to get people to qualify which we did, and state is our main goal every year, so we will see how that goes.”
Currently, the qualifiers are competing for state. Only two people can make it to state, so they have to compete very well against others. I asked him if there was a chance that any kids on the team could make it and he responded, “You can never achieve all your goals, but state meets will always be the main goal because only two athletes can make it and some luck is involved and there is definitely opportunity.”
We would like to wish the track and field team a successful remainder of their season and hopefully a trip to state!!!
