Here at Canyon High School, the junior varsity dance team Cougarettes have been working very hard to learn their dance drilsl and choreography to prepare for pep rallies, football games and even preparing for competitions later in the season.
Being a Cougarette is challenging and something that requires dedication to every single moment. Many Cougarettes have spent their summer and most of their after-school time dedicated to being a better dancer and learning many new skills. This year, the dance team has shown a lot of passion in many of their dances at the pep rallies and football games, and they strive to improve every performance.
I interviewed the Cougarettes’ lieutenant, sophomore Charlotte Pfluger, about what being a cougarette meant to her, and she said, “Being a Cougarette is an honor. Because of our passion for dance, we embody what we love.”
Being a Cougarette also has many challenges. For example, learning choreography in a short amount of time is not as easy as one may think. Learning choreography takes many hours and days, and there is not just choreography but also drill which adds more of a challenge.
Lieutenant Addison Graciela stated, “ The most challenging routine I have learned is competition hip hop so far. It’s just so tiring, and going full out most of the time is sooo draining. Dancing full out for five hours is a lot.
Despite all the challenges, the Cougarettes push themselves to become better to dedicate themselves to their school spirit. As the season continues, the Cougarettes have been excited to showcase their growth and talent at the upcoming pep rallies and football games.
Cougarettes, the Cougar Tracks staff wishes you the best of luck at future competitions and performances.Make sure to always shine and do your best !
