When you graduate high school, what path do you want to take? What paths are open to you? Which interests you the most? There are many questions that follow on ‘The Road Ahead’ and luckily for you Coogs, the College and Career Center is the perfect place to stop by to help answer these questions. With the help of Ms. Uptain and Schoolinks, the next steps to take will become much clearer.
When graduating, the students of Canyon High School will be either college, career, or military ready (CCMR). Students can enroll in college or trade programs to get education and experience. They may go right into a career of their choice or enroll in one of the military programs for seniors. All options are available and worth heavily considering.
Ms. Uptain stated, “I hope that students can see that there are valuable options no matter where they want to go”.
Many students will be intimidated by the variety of options available to them. However, Canyon High students have access to programs that can help them decide which paths are the best fit, such as Schoolinks.
Schoolinks is a program which is encouraged by the school administration and for good reason. The program offers a variety of methods to find paths graduating students have available, how to decide on those paths, and what the next steps after graduation would be. This makes finding colleges and careers far more convenient.
The onboarding program allows students to narrow their interests down to small career clusters based on their needs and strengths. From these clusters, jobs and college programs are shown in an easy to understand way. Schoolinks also offers a map of the states and the demand for certain careers in those areas, a perfect tool for those looking to enter into one right after graduation.
Options less considered but very much needed are trade programs. Trade is a valuable path which provides hands-on experience in partnership with several different colleges. The FAME program is starting up very soon, providing hands-on manufacturing experience in partnership with Texas State Technical College, which is opening a new branch soon here in New Braunfels.
Deciding may be hard, and the decision of what to do comes up to a gut feeling for many. The path for you may be clear, it may seem distant, or you may be completely lost on what exactly is the right choice for you, but Schoolinks, Ms. Uptain, and the College and Career Center are always there to help guide students on ‘the road ahead’.
