Our Canyon High School Theater group, led by director Carter Ridge, has had an eventful past few weeks working on their one-act production of A Monster Calls. The production has earned high praise from both the student section of Canyon High School and from regional critics as indicated by the success the group has had in regional competition. We at Cougar Tracks had the chance to interview Carter Ridge on the production’s history and record her retrospective on her group’s performance.
Mrs. Ridge highlighted multiple factors for why A Monster Calls was chosen to be adapted by her theater group. She noted, “About four years ago, we were at another contest doing a different show, and another school did A Monster Calls, which I thought was very interesting.” This year, the show that Ridge originally intended to do fell through, so when senior Reagan Lewis recommended A Monster Calls, Ridge quickly set her sights upon adapting that show based on her experience and student interest.
“Connor’s feelings and his thoughts and his emotions…we have an amazing ensemble that can do that”- Mrs. Ridge
The one-act play had an amazing cast and crew, and we would like to recognize the all-star cast and crew. All Star Technician was awarded to Aby Duque-Flores, Honorable Mention All Star Cast was awarded to Neil Dobbs, and All Star Cast was awarded to Tyrian Cox. They were able to end the season in an amazing place of the top 20 in the state.
Our Canyon Theater always has an amazing play or event planned and kills it. We here at Cougar Tracks loved the play and wish you luck on the next project. We cannot wait to see the next one.
