Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the unique voices and experiences of Hispanic/Latino Americans and recognize their history, journeys, and achievements.
I recently had the opportunity to talk to Erika Gonzales, who is the head of the Hispanic Alliance organization. We briefly talked about what they do during this month and some of the things her and the other kids talk about.
Ms. Gonzales said, “We do fun activities such as creating note cards and little projects that show the importance and love of Hispanic culture. There are around 60 kids.”
She also noted that there are many more kids now than there were last year which is really good because I’m sure she wants as many people to come together and celebrate this heritage.
This year, since the previous sponsor had to step down, Ms. Gonzales has taken full responsibility and shown to be a fit leader. She mentioned that there are sponsors for the group that fully support the Hispanic Alliance and are willing to help grow the organization and make it permanent.
When asked why she took over the organization, she said, “Last year, I wasn’t the person running the show, but now that I’m the person who’s running the Alliance group, I feel a sense of pride and responsibility to help these kids and show them the love and support of the Hispanic community.”
Ms. Gonzales is the perfect leader for the group and look forward to seeing them continue to grow.
