Water Polo practice session

The Canyon Cougar Water Polo team is starting off with a splash this season. They hope to continue their dominance in the water and continue making waves. The team has been around for 3 years at our school but only started playoffs in the second year. They are working hard every day to overcome adversity and support each other this year.

Coach Haltom has high hopes of placing 2nd in district and getting into the 3rd round of playoffs. So far, they have won six out of the eight games they have played this year with mixed game performance.

Coach Haltom stated, “We’re either ten goals ahead of the other team or ten goals behind.”

As the season goes on into late October, the water polo team will be practicing hard to make sure they have strong teamwork and play. With a tournament coming up and district not far behind, the team is practicing hard every morning to be the best they can be.

Hope Riechert, a senior on the girl’s team, has an optimistic attitude for the year. “This year I hope we can get past the first round of playoffs.” Although last year wasn’t the best, Hope believes that this year will be better: “I think this year we’re working harder and I think we can get past that first game.”

It’s safe to say that all is going ‘swimmingly’ with the water polo team. They are practicing hard and working together to make this season great, so let’s continue to give them our best support, Cougar Nation!
