At Canyon High School, you might often find our girls’ or boys’ basketball teams in the Cougar Den. Both teams have shown much success, but success always has challenges to go with it.
These teams have been very good throughout the seasons with their hard work and team chemistry, from intense practices and exciting game nights. The players showed what it truly means to represent Cougar Pride
Canyon basketball is led by dedicated coaches, focused on discipline, communication and effort both on and off the court. Each game highlights their growth as players.
One of the biggest strengths of the Canyon basketball team is its teamwork. Players support each other, celebrate success together and learn from each other. This positive mindset has definitely helped them improve throughout the season.
Freshman Kieren White said, “The team is full of laughter and gets along very well with each other, and there are little to no arguments. Basketball helped me grow as a person by understanding you have to take stuff slow and understand you can’t rush into it.”
Kieren also said, “One of my biggest challenges was tearing my meniscus and overcoming that challenge. I trained with it and also had therapy, and that helped a lot. I pushed through to make it to another season.” Kieren’s determination shows how much she values this team
Freshman Bryant Helm on the Junior Varsity stated, “My experience on this year’s team is honestly the most fun I’ve ever had playing basketball. The new teammates I’ve met and the sophomores and juniors have made it a year I could never forget.”
Bryant also stated, “When I had challenges in basketball, the things I did to overcome them were to take advice from coaches, teammates and even my mom, even though she has no experience. Sometimes having a voice to help you will also help you get over those challenges. The coaches know what they are talking about, so listening to what they have to say will help you understand what happened and what you can do for the next time.”
This shows just how much work and effort these Canyon High School students put into these teams and that the coaches value their players so much and make sure they are cared for at Canyon High School.
We look forward to watching these players not only grow on the court but also in the classroom, with help from coaches, family and supporters.
