All runners to the finish line! The 2022 Cross Country season has to come to an end at Canyon High School. Their hard work and dedication have brought them all the way to State this year. It has been an amazing season filled with teamwork and good times.

Head Coach Sheila West stated that her favorite part on the girls’ team was “watching the dynamic between the seniors and the freshmen. I have a lot of freshman girls this year and they’ve taken over some varsity positions, so just seeing them work out the kinks that go with that has been good to see.” West also explained that her favorite thing about the boys’ team was, “just seeing their confidence grow every single meet.”

Senior Ava Jeckell said, “My favorite part would probably be just seeing our growth as a team.” Senior, John Kelemen said, “For me, my favorite part of the season was probably the trip up to Dallas. It wasn’t anything special in terms of a district or regional meet, but it was just a good meet for team bonding.” The trip to Dallas occurred on September 17th. The varsity boys placed ninth and the varsity girls placed fourth. Throughout the entire season, both varsity teams placed in the top ten at every cross country meet. Jeckell also mentions, “We’re excited just to see what we can do for the rest of the season.”

Both varsity teams started the season in the top five and worked extremely hard. The varsity girls made their way to state. The girls’ team made 7th place at state this year, which is a record for Canyon High School!
