The Canyon High School wrestling team is having a good 2022-2023 wrestling season based on how many matches they have accomplished. On November 19 at Charger Classic at Churchill High School, the Cougars took 2nd place with 5 wrestlers placing in the finals:  Zayn Navarette, Daniel Limanskiy, Hoss Rodriguez, Manny Mauricio, and Lucas Aldrich. On December 10th at the Iron Tiger Duals in Dripping Springs, the Cougars placed 4th out of 12 teams. On December 29, at Raider Ruckus at Leander Rouse High School, Zayn Navarette, Shane Burden, and Lucas Aldrich placed champions. On January 7th, at Alamo City Duals at Judson High School, the Cougar wrestling team placed 2nd. 

On November 12, the Cougarettes had their first meet of the season at the Lady Knight Invitational at Steele High School. Freshman Kambrie Banta took 2nd place in the 114 lb JV division, and freshman Jazmin Hernandez-Anaya took 4th place in the JV 138 lb weight class.
On the Varsity level, freshman Marianna Jacquemotte was 4th in the 100 lb division, and sophomore Miranda Dominguez took 3rd place at 165 lbs. On December 3, at the Ranger Round Up at Smithson Valley High School, the Cougarettes took 3rd place. All wrestlers placed with Senior Alexis Stephenson taking home the championship. Marianna Jacquemotte and Kinsley Brook-Collins took 2nd place in their weight classes. Victoria Herrera, Xen Reddell, and Su Nae Burden placed 5th.

Mr. Baker said that he became a wrestling coach because it is a great sport and teaches kids a lot of commitment and about what hard work does for them and their life and just not in the sport itself. It teaches a lot about life lessons, and that is why he has enjoyed being a wrestling coach for 30 years. 

We wish Canyon High School Wrestling luck as they keep going through their season through February.
