Silent Hallways, Summer Calling

As the halls of Canyon High School are filled with laughter and conversations daily, they soon begin to fade as summer arrives. The 2025-2026 year was filled with many memories and adventures for the students. The senior class has left a memorable impact as they showed leadership and true Cougar Pride throughout the school year.

As summer approaches, many students make plans and ideas for what they are going to do over the summer. Summer break allows students a chance to relax, refresh their minds and have a fun time. Many students may prepare for sports or even travel, but mostly students hang out with their friends and families.

Summer also allows many students to improve themselves, and students call this a “summer glow up,” which is when students focus on making their lives better, including health, looks and taking more care of themselves.

Freshman Ella Murphy stated, “This summer, I am working, going to Schlitterbahn and preparing for band camp.”

Foreign exchange student junior Anna Gaustadnes stated, “I’m going back to Denmark to see friends and family and also going on vacation to Spain.”

Freshman Kieran White said, “This summer, I am going to focus on basketball, and I’m going to work out and get in shape.”

It is good to see the students continue their passion and improve themselves over the summer by refreshing themselves and focusing on their health, sports and overall life.

Many of our dear seniors begin to plan for their lives after high school. While it may be sad to lose many of our students and friends, we should be happy that they get to continue their careers and lives knowing they made an impact.

When asked what she will do over the summer, senior Lexi Patino quoted, “Get a job, get all my stuff ready for college and travel to Las Vegas and Georgia.”

Senior Mackenzie Vasquez said, “I plan to get a job to get my money and just live my life.”

We love to see our seniors already planning their futures and the lives they will continue to build after high school.

Cougar Tracks is incredibly proud of every student here at Canyon High School. Everyone has made a huge impact and change in our school, even if you do not see it. We wish everyone an amazing summer and good luck to all of our senior class as they move on to another chapter of life. Until next year, everyone.

Hello! My name is Elijah Ferniz, and I’m glad to be a new staff writer for Canyon High School. This year, I am a sophomore; I joined journalism last year in my freshman year. My plan was originally to join the yearbook team for this year, but after seeing the work of the newspaper in my freshman year, I was so fascinated by it, I was motivated me to be a staff writer. Other than the newspaper, some other hobbies that I enjoy are gardening, band and writing. I am also very kind and helpful to my peers, and I believe that everyone deserves to be helped when struggling. As a new staff writer this year, my goals are to spread as much news to the school as I can and to make people interested in joining the newspaper staff so they can experience how much fun it really is.
